With over 23 years of dedicated service to the Magistrate Court, Tahnicia's career is a testament to her resilience, commitment and leadership in our court system.
Tahnicia began her career as a part-time clerk in Cobb’s Magistrate Court and worked her way up to become the Court Administrator, a role in which she oversees a staff of 90 people and manages a budget of $7.6 million. Her extensive experience includes seven years as the Clerk of Court, during which she served under three different Chief Magistrates, showcasing her adaptability and leadership capabilities. The Cobb County Magistrate Court, under the management of Judge Murphy and Tahnicia Phillips, was honored by the Cobb County Bar Association for its outstanding service. During the pandemic, Chief Magistrate Judge Brendan F. Murphy, Court Administrator Tahnicia Phillips, and their team provided crucial support to residents at risk of eviction. The court received the Liberty Bell Award for promoting respect for the Constitution and the Jimmy Berry Champion of Justice Award for strengthening justice.
Born and raised in Marietta, Georgia, Tahnicia is a proud graduate of Marietta High School. She furthered her education at Clark Atlanta University and Keller Graduate School of Management. She also completed the Cobb County/University of Georgia EXCEL program, a leadership development course that has equipped her with the skills to excel in the management of our courts.
Beyond her professional achievements, Tahnicia is deeply involved in her community. She is the co-founder and executive director of the Leonard Phillips Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to motorcyclists injured while riding. This foundation was established in honor of her late father, who was tragically killed by a hit-and-run driver.
Tahnicia's commitment to service extends to her roles on various boards. She is a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and serves on the board of the Ezra William SCORE for Kids Foundation. Additionally, she co-chairs the Works of Heart Benefit for the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy, reflecting her dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of others.
